By John B. Keane
Tuesday 19th November – Saturday 23rd November
Set in rural Ireland in the 1960s, John B. Keane’s The Year of the Hiker tells the tale of a father, who having deserted his family 20 years prior, reappears on his daughter’s wedding day. ‘Hiker’ Lacey, knows he is dying and comes home to seek forgiveness from his family.
The play is a character study of an unconventional family, haunted by loss and regret and explores father/son relationships, regret for lost love, and male weakness. How each of the family come to terms with the Hiker’s return unfolds in an ambiguous manner.
Whether Hiker Lacey is weak for not staying and facing up to his responsibilities as a man and father is one which the audience can decide for themselves, in this TADS’ production.
