Visit Moneygall Village while touring Ireland
Whether walking, cycling or by car there are lots of things to see and do in Moneygall and the surrounding areas of Dunkerrin and Barna. Thinking of staying in Moneygall? Why not take a look at the range of accommodation in Moneygall and surrounding areas.
The Kearney Cycling Loop
A newly developed cycle way and driving route has been opened locally taking in the many sites around the Moneygall area and connecting to our neighbours in Shinrone who also have links with the Kearney family.. Aptly named the Kearney Loop this cycle way takes you past many of the historical sites of the parish. The loop starts and finishes in Moneygall Village. So when your trek is complete finish off the day with a creamy pint of Guinness in Ollie Hayes’s Bar … Obama famously said of Ollie’s Guinness “you guys keep all the good stuff here”.
Rock of Loyer Walking Loop
Distance: 4.6 – 5.6Km Grade: Moderate Ascent: 120m The new Rock of Loyer Walking Route is a 4.1 Km route through hills & farm land overlooking Moneygall village. Starting from Moneygall Activity Park, the route runs in a clockwise direction through the village, past the R.C church and goes off-road heading south near the speed limit post at Derrycallaghan. Keeping to the left, the route ascends along the county boundary line before turning west along the top boundary. Extensive views of the village and countryside are available with The Arra Mountains and River Shannon visible to the west, the Slieve Aughty Mountains to the North and the Slieve Blooms to the east. The route climbs again for a short distance before joining a track along the base of a forestry plantation before descending to join up with Loyer Lane. At this point turning right will lead back to Moneygall village via the Barnagrotty Road where you will arrive at the activity park and can proceed to warm down on our new community walking track an extension to our loop in 2019 at Moneygall FC grounds. This walking track is also under lights until 10pm and the solar lighting was a welcome addition in 2020.
Activity Park
Why not visit our Activity Park which caters for many ages and is directly opposite our picnic area. Each section of the activity park is marked out on site for all the age groups from toddler to early youth. We also have adult exercise equipment to keep parent occupied, or to use as a warm up for the Rock of Loyer Walking Loop.
